History

  • June 1983
    I.S.T Corporation is established. Starts operation from October 1983, with four employees (including three engineers) as a company that conducts research and development, and sells its technology. Starts development of functional composite fiber made of glass fiber and fluorine resin.
  • February 1985
    Nonflammable ISTFLON® glass yarn was exclusively chosen by Japan Telegram & Telephone Bureau (currently NTT) as a nonflammable construction material to prevent a recurrence of the fire accident in a communication cable that happened in Setagaya, Tokyo. Twenty tons of this product was supplied.

    Starts development of air dome tent structure membrane.
  • August 1985
    Starts joint development of heat resistant, nonflammable composite fibers with E.I. DuPont (USA).
  • October 1986
    Succeeds in development of functional toner-fixing rollers, and starts production.
  • February 1987
    Introduced a computer system for in house designing and production of our own manufacturing equipment. Enabling full-scale factory production.
  • May 1988
    Established I.S.T. Kami as a production factory. Site area: 53,000m2
  • September 1989
    I.S.T Tokyo Branch Office is opened.
  • November 1989
    Started the development of technology necessary for production of highly functional polymer and glass fiber composite membranes. The Japan Membrane Structures Association authorized our structural tent membrane as grade "A", and sales activity was initiated.
  • April 1991
    Completed proprietary fixing tube technology, which utilizes less energy consumption in laser beam printers, and initiated production.
  • March 1992
    Registered and received authorization for a scale production business with Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in Japan. Registered scale production business with MITI and received authorization.
  • June 1994
    Acquired Pyre-M.L.® business from E.I. DuPont(USA). Established the first subsidiary I.S.T. (USA) in Parlin, New Jersey.
  • April 1996
    Acquired SKYBOND® business from Monsanto (USA). Established the second subsidiary, I.S.T. (MA) in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts.
  • April 1996
    Started supplying interior compartment material for "ASAMA" bullet trains of East Japan Railways.
  • February 1997
    Set up production facilities for office automation equipment parts at I.S.T. (USA).

    Constructed a laboratory at I.S.T Kami.

    Started research and development of biotechnology and gene engineering.
  • March 1998
    Completed research on production technology for a clear tent structural membrane.
  • April 1999
    Donated nonflammable curtains to nursing homes in Shiga prefecture, including Otsu Municipal Hospital.

    Started supplying nonflammable acoustic interior cloth to movie theaters, music halls and studios.

    Started GSL (Greatly Satisfying Life) project at I.S.T Kami.

    Established Industrial Summit Technology Corporation in the USA.

    Started development of precision components for medical devices.
  • December 2001
    ISTFLON® cloth was approved as nonflammable material by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in Japan.

    Started production of polyimide intermediate transfer belts for new color printing machines.
  • November 2002
    Celebrated our 20th anniversary. Constructed a new corporate headquarter and research center in Shiga Prefecture, in Japan.
  • December 2002
    Completed development of a transparent polyimide film.
  • October 2003
    GSL project received 1st prize at the contest held by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labor for encouraging employment of elderly people in Japan.
  • December 2003
    Acquired a wool textile business from Nikko Keori and initiated a challenge for revitalizing the Japanese wool industry. Established Nikko Textile Corporation in Gifu Prefecture. Site scale : 66,000m2
  • December 2005
    Acquired a wool yarn knitwear factory in Guangdong, China. Established Zhongshan I.S.T Corporation.
  • July 2008
    Acquired Super Resin Corporation, a business engaged in production and development of carbon fiber reinforced plastics.
  • September 2008
    Celebrated the 20th anniversary of I.S.T. Kami. Constructed a new main building in Hyogo, Japan.
  • November 2014
    President Mr. Sakane was awarded a medal (The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays) from the Japanese Emperor by the recommendation of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
  • November 2015
    Super Resin Inc. becomes independent from the I.S.T Group.
  • May 2016
    I.S.T absorbed Nikko Textile and continues its textile business as Textile Division.
  • November 2016
    Toshiko Sakane assumes office as CEO. Isamu Sakane assumes office as Chairperson.
  • November 2018
    Acquired a golf shaft business from seven dreamers laboratories inc and initiated a challenge for BtoC business of composite.
